Island Beach State Park is a place where life has seemingly stood still for centuries. This post is to inform and remind us of the beauty and timelessness off the beach, and to encourage us all to explore this wonder we have right in our backyard. It's so easy for people in this area to forget about the beauty that surrounds them every day, but I hope this post helps people be reminded about how beautiful nature can be, giving them a sense of peace and appreciation that they may not have been aware of before. The closest beach is Ocean City's Island Beach State Park, which is a state park of the state of New Jersey and has been open to the public since 1928. The beach is very close to our house and we planned on it being a fun family trip together this summer. One day we arrived, and everyone was so excited and eager to see this beautiful Island Beach State Park. Crossing through those gates felt like waking up on another planet; everything was new and exciting! We were all amazed by how beautiful the beach was; there were no waves, but there were beautiful dunes that stretched as far as you could see in any direction (picture that dune as the dune on the dune on the dune...). It felt like there were endless possibilities for fun on the beach. There was one place where the water seemed to be shallow enough for us to walk all the way across without getting our feet wet. That proved to be an amazing adventure, but it required a lot of energy because we'd have to run to keep up with the waves or else get completely soaked. We also enjoyed splashing in the water and trying to make each other laugh while we went swimming in the ocean. There was also a place on the beach that looked like a great place to build sandcastles, and we decided to give it a try. It was fun for everyone except our dog, she didn't like getting sand in her paws! After some time on the beach we decided to pack up and leave. As we were leaving I realized that I couldn't take my eyes off of this amazing beach, just to see two people walking right into the sea. That sight surprised me, because people are told not to go into the water after they've been swimming in the ocean because they could get sick from doing so. There's something radically beautiful about the ocean that makes it hard not to love. For weeks after we all talked about how much fun we had at this beach, and what a magical and special place it is. The memories of our time spent there replay in our heads day and night.
